Best for: people who want detailed food and nutrition tracking without paying

Editorial note: Shelog is a food-tracking app, so we are a competitor of MyNetDiary. This review combines our hands-on testing in September 2026 with the app's own published feature information. Prices and availability may vary by region, platform, and offer.

MyNetDiary is one of the more traditional calorie and nutrition trackers in this comparison, but it has an unusual advantage: a large portion of its core functionality is available for free.

The app offers food search, barcode scanning, voice logging, calorie and macro tracking, detailed nutrient information, charts, reports, water and exercise tracking, and a configurable dashboard without requiring a subscription. Its free tier is ad-free and does not require an account to get started.

We tested MyNetDiary's onboarding, food-logging methods, nutrition tracking, recipes, community, and subscription features to see how the free and paid experiences compare.

Our overall impression: MyNetDiary offers one of the most generous free food-tracking experiences we've tested. The biggest reason to upgrade isn't basic nutrition tracking—it is access to advanced features such as Meal Scan, structured diet plans, and especially the AI tools in Premium Plus.

Our Experience Testing MyNetDiary

MyNetDiary's onboarding is more detailed than the average calorie tracker.

We went through roughly 20 questions, and the whole process took around eight minutes. The questions go beyond basic information such as age, height, weight, and goals. The app also asks whether you are interested in intermittent fasting, whether you want to enable an AI experience, and whether you prefer a guided approach or want to manage things yourself. You can start using MyNetDiary without creating an account, then sign up later if you want data backup or online access.

The dashboard is also configurable, so you can decide which information and tools you want to see. That gives MyNetDiary an interesting balance: onboarding is fairly detailed, but the app lets you decide how complicated you want the everyday experience to be.

Core Features: How MyNetDiary Works

MyNetDiary combines traditional food logging with unusually detailed nutrition data. What stood out most in our testing was how many of its core tracking tools remained available without a subscription.

Food logging: You can record food through search, barcode scanning, voice logging, or Meal Scan. Search, barcode scanning, and standard voice logging are free. Meal Scan is a Premium feature. In our testing, however, we were able to use it three times with a free account before the app prompted us to upgrade.

Food database: MyNetDiary says its staff-verified database contains more than 2 million foods. The company says the database is based on research-grade sources including USDA and NCC data, with branded and restaurant entries reviewed by its nutrition research staff.

This is important if you're someone who cares about the nutritional details of individual foods rather than simply accepting an AI estimate.

Nutrition tracking: This is probably MyNetDiary's strongest feature.

The app can track up to 108 nutrients per food entry, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and omega fatty acids. Unlike many competing apps, this detailed nutrient information is available even in the free version.

MyNetDiary shows detailed macro and micronutrient data in the nutrition view

In our testing, this was the most detailed nutrition tracking among the apps in this comparison.

You can also view reports and export your data, which makes MyNetDiary useful for people who want to examine their diet more closely rather than just monitor calories.

Dashboard and progress tracking: The dashboard is configurable, and the app includes charts, reports, weight history, calorie and macro targets, water tracking, and exercise tracking. MyNetDiary says the free tier includes unlimited data history and reports.

Diet tools: Premium adds planning and advanced tracking features including Meal Planner, specialized diet plans, intermittent fasting, calorie and macro cycling, Advanced Autopilot, and additional health tracking.

These features are more relevant if you want MyNetDiary to help structure your diet rather than simply record what you eat.

Community: MyNetDiary's community was more developed than we expected. Users can create profiles, follow one another, share posts and progress updates, and participate in topic-based groups.

MyNetDiary's community includes user posts, progress updates, and topic-based groups.

Users can also create their own groups around categories such as activity, age, diet, journey, and recipes and meals. This adds a social dimension without making community the central focus of the app.

Health and device sync: MyNetDiary supports Apple Health and Health Connect in the free tier. Direct syncing with Fitbit, Garmin, and Withings requires Premium.

Some direct device connections, including Fitbit, Garmin, and Withings, require Premium.

This is an important distinction if you use a fitness tracker or connected scale.

Premium Plus: where MyNetDiary's AI comes in

Premium Plus is primarily MyNetDiary's AI tier.

It includes AI Coach, which uses your diary and goals to provide personalized guidance; AI Suggest Meals, which recommends meals based on your remaining targets; AI Voice Logging, which turns spoken meal descriptions into diary entries; and AI Restaurant Menu Scan, which analyzes menus against your diet goals.

If you're happy logging and interpreting your nutrition data yourself, these tools may not justify the higher tier. Premium Plus makes more sense if you want the app to actively interpret your diary and suggest what to eat.

Does MyNetDiary Offer Discounts?

Yes, MyNetDiary offers separate group and gift membership discounts.

During our testing, we also received a substantial discount after declining the initial subscription offer. After we declined the first subscription screen, MyNetDiary reduced Premium from $59.99/year to $29.99/year, a 50% discount, and described the offer as one-time. When we later reached another paywall, the price had returned to $59.99/year.

What We Like and Don’t Like

What We Like

  1. Exceptionally generous free tier: Food search, barcode scanning, standard voice logging, detailed nutrition tracking, water and exercise tracking, reports, and community features are available without paying.

  2. No ads in the free version: The free experience felt noticeably cleaner than several other trackers we tested.

  3. Chance to try Meal Scan: We were able to use Meal Scan three times with our free account before being asked to upgrade.

  4. Detailed nutrition data: MyNetDiary can track up to 108 nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids.

  5. Useful community and device ecosystem: Community features are included free, while the app also supports health-platform and wearable integrations.

What We Don’t Like

  1. English-only experience: This limits accessibility for people who prefer to track food in another language.

  2. Some direct device integrations require Premium: Fitbit, Garmin, and Withings require an upgrade.

  3. AI features require Premium Plus: AI Coach, AI Suggest Meals, AI Voice Logging, and AI Restaurant Menu Scan sit behind the highest tier.

  4. Can feel overwhelming at first: The amount of nutrition data, settings, and customization may be more than a casual tracker needs.

Who Is MyNetDiary Best For?

MyNetDiary is a good fit for people who want detailed nutrition tracking with a strong free version. You can get a surprisingly complete tracking experience without subscribing.

MyNetDiary may be especially suitable for people who:

Want detailed calorie, macro, vitamin, and mineral tracking.

Need a capable free food tracker without advertising.

Prefer manual control and detailed data over an AI-first interface.

Use Apple Health or Health Connect and want basic syncing without upgrading.

It's less suitable if you want a very minimalist food diary or primarily want AI coaching, since MyNetDiary's breadth can feel overwhelming and its main AI tools require Premium Plus.
